When you think of Jerry Seinfeld, a lot of things come to mind but rap music isn’t one of them. Seinfeld, however, is working on a rap album with hip hop star Wale (pronounced wah-lay). Wale released his own Seinfeld-themed album, The Mixtape About Nothing, in 2008, but now he has actually connected with Seinfeld.
“Wale called me, he came to my show, we hung out a little bit,” Seinfeld said in a video posted by DJ Omega on Youtube. “He wanted me to do something with him. I didn’t understand it, but he did.”
Seinfeld’s wife Jessica is a Wale fan and encouraged the project. “We’re living together, she’s into him, he’s into me, and I didn’t know about the whole thing,” he said.
Seinfeld’s eponymous sitcom ran on NBC from 1990 – 1998. It is generally regarded as one of the all-time great situation comedies – in fact, TV Guide once actually named it the greatest television show of all time – and it won Seinfeld an Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series in 1993. Since the series ended, Seinfeld has kept busy touring the country with his stand-up act. He will be performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on April 12 and 13 and at Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 17.
