Bethany Frankel , star of Bethenny Frankel, who gained fame as the Jewish housewife featured on the popular reality television program “Real Housewives of New York City” has announced that she is planning to divorce her husband, Jason Hoppy, after three years of marriage, Frankel wrote in a statement.

“This was an extremely difficult decision that, as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority.” Frankel concluded, “This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.”

The author, talk show host and natural foods chef met Hoppy, who she once described as “a regular guy with a regular salary,” at a nightclub in 2008 while she was filming the Real Housewives series. In 2010, Frankel capitalized on the relationship by starring in a spinoff show, “Bethenny Getting Married,” which documented her pregnancy and marriage and ended up becoming Bravo’s highest-rated series premiere, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The show was subsequently expanded into a new series, “Bethenny Ever After,” which followed Hoppy and Frankel around New York City with their daughter, Bryn, and presented an inside look at Frankel’s low-calorie drinks business, Skinnygirl.

Frankel’s father was Jewish and her mother converted to Judaism when she married her father. Frankel’s parents split up when she was four years old and a year later her mother remarried. Frankel describes her childhood as difficult and says her mother “was always drinking” and arguing violently with her stepfather.

Frankel attended the National Gourmet Institute for Healthy and Culinary Arts in New York City, New York University and Boston University.

Frankel began her TV and film career when she appeared in the 1993 short film Soiree Sans Hors D’oeuvres, the 1994 movie Hollywood Hills 90028, and the 1995 movie Wish Me Luck.

In 2005, Frankel began her foray into reality television by appearing on “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart,” where she became one of two finalists. In 2008, Frankel was selected for “Real Housewives.” Her first book, Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting, was published shortly afterwards, and in December 2009, her second book, The SkinnyGirl Dish: Easy Recipes for Your Naturally Thin Life, was released.

Frankel also created an exercise DVD, Body by Bethenny, in spring 2010 and an audio book, The Skinnygirl Rules, which summarized her two SkinnyGirl books. In June of that year, Frankel starred in Bethenny Getting Married, which documented her engagement, marriage and the birth of her daughter.

In November 2011, Frankel appeared on the ABC reality series “Skating with the Stars,” and was runner-up to the champion.

In March 2011, Frankel released A Place of Yes: 10 Rules for Getting Everything You Want Out of Life which spent several weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. The following month, Frankel sold her Skinnygirl cocktail brand to Fortune Brands’ Beam Global for an estimated $100 million dollars.
