(Photo credit: Pamela Hall)Dr. Paul Brody, of Great Neck, Vice President for the International Committee for the Land of Israel (ICLI), has launched a campaign entitled “Jewish Democrats for Romney: It’s a Mitt-zvah!” Dr. Brody and his colleagues are puzzled as to how anyone, let alone Jews, could support President Obama in his re-election bid, in light of what Brody refers to as Obama’s “dismal economic record at home and his anemic foreign policy program,” in particular his “antagonistic dealings with Israel.” Perceiving that most of these supporters are registered Democrats, Dr. Brody has focused his attention on Jewish Democrats, whom he feels “should know the facts better.”

Brody himself never switched his affiliation from the Democratic Party, although his views are currently much more closely aligned with the Republican Party, so that he is able to criticize certain Democrat policies as a Party member.

“Jewish Democrats for Romney” was launched on October 16 with a demonstration at Long Island’s Hofstra University before the 2nd Presidential Debate. Dr. Brody and his 13-year-old son Joey, a student at the Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ), joined the Republican Jewish Coalition, and unveiled their “Jewish Democrats for Romney” placard. The placard garnered much attention and comment, both encouraging and negative, at Hofstra, by other demonstrators and passers-by. Dr. Brody hopes that this campaign will stimulate Jewish Democrats, and everyone else, to start thinking about supporting Gov. Mitt Romney.

“After all,” says Brody, “it would be a ‘Mitt-zvah’.”
