The New York Giants enter this season looking for a repeat of last year’s thrilling Super Bowl run. While MetLife Stadium’s other tenant, the Jets, look to forget a dismal 2011 season and attempt to turn things around.

Вig Blue welcomed their long time division rivals the Dallas Cowboys to town last week to kick off their 2012 season. The evening was filled with ceremonies and dedications to last season’s big Super Bowl run. After winning the big game in Indianapolis last February, the G-men lost some key pieces in Mario Manigham, Brandon Jacobs, and Jonathan Goff. But other big name players Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Justin tuck, and Osi Umenyiora and the rest of the 2011 Super Bowl team are still intact. Not only did the team win the game’s ultimate prize, head coach Tom Coughlin believes the team grew during their late season run and developed stronger team chemistry.

As for opening night, the Giants didn’t seem like the team that just won a ring as they consistently got stopped by the Cowboys. Passes were dropped, defensive assignments missed, and the penalties piled up. Dallas took a 7-3 lead into halftime and never looked back in their 24-17 win. Eli Manning had a decent game throwing for 213 yards on 21-32 passes including one touch down and no interceptions. Running backs Bradshaw and Wilson rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had a career night throwing for 307 yards on 22/29 passing and 3 touchdowns. The Giants were penalized for 33 yards and the Cowboys for 86. The Giants were beaten in total yards as well 433 to 269, as it was pretty much all Cowboys, all night.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ MetLife stadium neighbors, the New York Jets, are looking to rebound from a poor 8-8 finish to the 2011 season. Gang Green’s biggest off-season move was acquiring wildcat quarterback Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos. Starting QB Mark Sanchez threw three touchdown passes; as the New York Jets eased any concerns about their offense with a 48-28 rout of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Jets sprinkled in their wildcat package with Tim Tebow, who was mostly quiet but recovered a late onside kick by Buffalo, and Jeremy Kerley had a touchdown catch and a punt return for a score. Antonio Cromartie had a big interception which was returned for a touchdown as well. It was the most points the Jets have scored in a season opener. That’s from a team that had many wondering what to expect after the first-team offense failed to score a touchdown in the first three games of the preseason.
