Jewish radio personality Nachum Segal, who will be celebrating 30 years on the air with a special broadcast next week.On September 4, 2012, the worlds of Jewish broadcasting, music and entertainment will collide to create The Nachum Segal Network, the first and only 24-hour lineup of original Jewish radio programming originating outside the State of Israel.

Its cornerstone is Nachum Segal’s JM in the AM — widely considered the Jewish community’s radio program of record — that he produces and hosts between 6:00 and 9:00 AM, Monday to Friday, heard on listener-sponsored WFMU (91.1 FM) in New Jersey and New York, WMFU (90.1 FM) in the Catskills and around the world at www.nachumsegal.com.

Nachum has been called “the voice of Klal Yisrael” and behind his microphone that morning he will,
b’li ayin harah, celebrate a remarkable milestone — 30 years on the air — joined by a roster of notable guests and his longtime staff of volunteers. The community is warmly invited to join Nachum on Tuesday, Sept. 4 as he broadcasts JM in the AM from 6 am to 9 AM from Jerusalem Café at 35 West 36th Street in Manhattan.

During that broadcast Nachum will announce the appointment of Miriam L. Wallach, of Woodmere, NY, as general manager of The Nachum Segal Network, and unveil a roster of exciting new programs and hosts who will join the weekly schedule on ‘the live stream’ on nachumsegal.com.

Wallach, an occasional commentator on Fox Business, hosts a popular program called “That’s Life” on nachumsegal.com and writes a weekly newspaper column and a similarly-named blog.

“With Miriam playing a new and pivotal role, we are confident that JM in the AM’s growth over the last 30 years will serve as the foundation for a bright and limitless future for The Nachum Segal Network,” Nachum Segal said, “ensuring its development, expansion and continued success.”

“I am excited to have the opportunity to develop what is surely the most unique brand in the Jewish world, and to build an international platform for great programming under Nachum Segal’s good name,” Wallach said.

Longtime listeners of JM in the AM are familiar with the remarkable story of how Segal, as a senior at Yeshiva University and manager of the campus radio station, was pressed into service at WFMU on Erev Rosh Hashanah three decades ago, on less than a day’s notice, to host what was then known locally as The Hebrew & Jewish Program. Since that day, even as JM in the AM has grown to enjoy international recognition, Segal has been known for his warmth, menchlichkeit and approachability, and today they remain his hallmarks on-and-off the air.
