Windsurfer Lee Korzits sailed into sixth place in the women’s RS:X event in London today (August 7). Though she missed out on a medal, the 28-year-old Israeli proved she deserves to be counted among the world’s best.

Korzits went into the medal race in second place overall after 10 preliminary races. She finished today’s race in ninth place which pushed her down to sixth place overall.

Spaniard Marina Alabau Neira took the gold, Finnish sailor Tuuli Petaja took silver and Poland’s Zofia Noceti-Klepacka captured the bronze.

Korzits has the highest placing for an Israeli athlete in the Olympics so far.

Since Barcelona 1992, the Israeli delegation has brought home at least one medal from the Olympics. Although there are still blue-and-white athletes in competition, it looks like that tradition has come to an end.
