Alexandra Raisman, the American Jewish gymnast who performed to the music of “Hava Nagila” in the first days of the London Olympics, won a gold medal in her floor exercise Tuesday as well as a bronze medal for the balance beam exercise. Last week, Raisman led the U.S. team to its first Olympic gold medal in women’s gymnastics since 1996.
In the balance beam exercise, Raisman at first finished fourth place with a score of 14.966. After reviewing her routine, the judges chose to add an extra tenth of a point, giving her a score of 15.066, identical to that of Romanian Catalina Ponor. Raisman ultimately got the bronze medal because her execution score was higher.
Raisman’s second gold medal was the first Olympic gold in the floor exercise for a U.S. woman.
