The Brooklyn Cyclones have started the 2012 season in style. After a 45-29 finish to the 2011 season which included a wild card berth, second year manager Rich Donnelly is determined to improve this year’s Cyclone squad.

In the Cyclones first game of the season on Monday June 18, they shut out their cross town rivals the Staten Island Yankees 2-0, and started the season with a 3-0 record. They suffered their first loss of the young season three days later at home to the same Yankees. After the game, Coach Donnelly told me in his post game new conference that he was still impressed and saw positives from his ball club in the 8-1 defeat. Just two days later, the Cyclones came out swinging against Aberdeen and crushed the Iron Birds 7-1 after their bats exploded for nine hits. The blast of the day came from Kevin Plawecki who hit a two-run shot in the 5th inning, helping his team improve to a 4-2 record.

The Cyclones returned to action on Sunday and again beat up on the Iron Birds, this time by the score of 10-5 as they banged out a season high 13 hits. The next night, it was the Hudson Valley Renegades who were the Cyclones latest victim as Brooklyn won the contest at home 3-0. The Cyclones went on to win four of their next five contests and lead their division with a 10-4 record at week’s end.

And heads up, Jewish Voice readers, the Cyclones will be hosting Jewish heritage night on Sunday August 12 at MCU Park versus the Vermont Lake Monsters!
