He’s like Justin Bieber, only, we like him. A 13-year old contestant was quickly dubbed the “Jewish Justin Bieber” by viewers after performing “Good Life” by OneRepublic on the TV show “America’s Got Talent”.
Orthodox Jew Edan Pinchot played piano and sang the song (with his kippah on, no less), advancing to the national competition as the judges all agreed on the virtuosity of Pinchot’s performance.
Judge Sharon Osbourne told the young singer that, “sang with such emotion. I just want to see more,” and Howard Stern agreed, exclaiming, “You are so talented, you are so gifted, it’s a yes from me.”
Pinchot has already drawn a following for his appearance on the show as well as his internet covers of songs as diverse as John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Shontelle’s “Impossible.”
Despite the (in our view, unfortunate) nickname, all of us at the Jewish Voice can’t help but shep nachas (that is, feel pride) on account of the mainstream success of this Jewish musical prodigy. Mazel tov, Edan, and good luck in Las Vegas!
