The Lander College for Men/Beis Medrash L’Talmud of Touro College will host a tribute dinner in honor of Rosh HaYeshiva Rav Abba Bronspigel in recognition of his extraordinary impact on Jewish education around the world. The dinner will take place on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 6 PM at the Renaissance Ballroom in Brooklyn, New York.  The Tribute Dinner will mark the launch of the Rav Abba Bronspigel Scholarship Fund to enable future generations of Torah scholars to gain the highest quality education at the Lander College for Men. The fund will ensure the continuation of Rav Bronspigel’s great legacy of Torah learning and commitment and serve as a meaningful and ongoing tribute to his long and distinguished career.

“Rav Bronspigel’s deep learning and great warmth influenced thousands of students,” said Dr. Moshe Sokol, dean of the Lander College for Men. “He brought a European sensibility and piety to the shores of America, and touched generations of students with his modesty and principles.”

Born in Poland three years before the Nazis invaded the country, Rav Bronspigel began his career as a rebbe in his 20s after studying with Torah giants Rav Yeruchum Gorelik z”tl and Rav Joseph B. Soloveitchik z”tl at Yeshiva University. For over 50 years, Rav Bronspigel has been a prominent Talmudic scholar in the Torah community, first at Yeshiva University High School for Boys and as a Rosh Yeshiva at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) at Yeshiva University and for the past 12 years at Lander College for Men. He has inspired and educated thousands of talmidim with warmth, consideration, patience and passion. Additionally, he served as rabbi for two synagogues with the same name, Congregations Zichron Yehuda V’Chana, in Borough Park for 25 years and, most recently, in Monsey.

Dean Sokol noted that Rav Bronspigel helped him recruit the very first class of LCM, playing “a central role in the creation of the Lander College for Men/Beis Medrash L›Talmud, setting its guiding principles.”

The cost for the event is $100 per person, which will include a reception followed by a program and dinner. To guarantee a seat, reservations are strongly suggested. The Renaissance is located at 5902 14th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.
