‘Something’s Coming’ to the Axelrod with the Star Studded Musical Revue, Side by Side by Sondheim

Side by Side by Sondheim will debut at Axelrod in mid-March.After a successful stay in the beautiful cornfields of Oklahoma! the Axelrod Performing Arts Center turns the spotlight on the words and music of Broadway icon Stephen Sondheim with the musical revue Side by Side by Sondheim this March 15th, 17th, & 18th. The show highlights music from more than a dozen Sondheim hits, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Gypsy, Follies, West Side Story, Company, A Little Night Music, and many more offering a unique snapshot of the career of one of the country’s most prolific and influential composer-lyricist.

The show features Axelrod favorites Ken Wasser (South Pacific, Man of La Mancha), Ruthie Zekaria Levy (Hello Dolly!, Follies), Ali Gleason (Hairspray, Man of La Mancha, The Wedding Singer), Anthony Greco (Oliver!, The Secret Garden), while welcoming newcomers Janice Liddy (Titanic, Two Gentlemen of Verona, NENA After Dark) and Chris Pica (The King & I, Jekyll & Hyde, and Blood Brothers).

Side by Side by Sondheim is a wonderfully sophisticated celebration of one of the greatest composers in Broadway history according to the show’s Director Anthony Greco, of Oakhurst.  The state-of-the-art Axelrod PAC opened with a production of “Follies” in 2006, and our audiences have been asking for another dose of Sondheim and this show fits the bill with some of the legendary composer’s most celebrated songs.” Behind the music of this wonderful revue is Musical Director Mary Lough, of Point Pleasant Beach, whose many musical credits with the Spring Lake Theatre Company cover a vast majority of the works included in the show. She will be accompanied on second piano by recent Axelrod Musical Director Jeff Unger (Oklahoma, Titanic, and South Pacific), of Wall Township.
