JOSEPH SHAMIE, PRESIDENT OF DELTA CHILDREN’S PRODUCTS TO RECEIVE HIGHEST HUMANITARIAN HONOR FROM K.I.D.S.
President of Delta Children’s Products Joseph Shamie is receiving the Humanitarian Award from Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) this week, at the organization’s annual gala in New York City.
Since its inception in 1985, K.I.D.S. has donated over $1 billion worth of new clothing, shoes, toys, books, baby products and more to children in need, an accomplishment they have achieved with the generosity of Delta Children’s Products and other companies.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award from K.I.D.S. We at Delta Children’s Products are committed to improving the lives of children through our partnerships with K.I.D.S and by following the footsteps of its leader, Janice Weinman,” noted Joseph Shamie.
Shamie went into the family business at a young age, helping his father Louis to grow Delta Children’s Products, an enterprise that was still in its early stages. Under his father’s guidance he worked his way up from sales to management. At the time, he could not imagine that he, his father, and brother Sam, would one day not only build the business into the world’s largest infant and toddler furniture manufacturer, but also transform the safety standards for an entire industry. Today as president, he still is strongly involved in all aspects of the company including: product development, sales, marketing, licensing, public relations and of most importantly making sure his Delta Team is happy.
Louis Shamie taught Joseph and his siblings “to give and give generously,” so naturally Joe leads Delta Children’s Products in its philanthropic outreach. The company donates new cribs and play yards to children in need through various charities, including K.I.D.S., Baby Buggy, The New York Foundling, Inwood House, First Candle, Angel Fund, Bikur Holim and the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) to name a few. Joseph has received prestigious awards from UJA and the Sephardic Community Center (of which he was treasurer and is currently VP). He was also recently appointed to the K.I.D.S. board.
Through their partnership, Delta Children’s Products and K.I.D.S are working together to ensure that all infants have a safe sleep environment. Joseph is leading the industry efforts on safety by educating parents on sleeping habits, as well as donating new cribs to children in need worldwide, since forming his relationship with K.I.D.S. over twenty years ago.
