After consultation with the U.S. European Command (EUCOM), the IDF decided on Monday to postpone the “Austere Challenge 12” joint military exercise until the second half of 2012. The drill was to be the largest such exercise ever conducted.
“For a month now, we have been in talks with the Pentagon about postponing the joint exercise,” Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Monday. “The decision was made in coordination with the U.S. We reached an understanding that it was right to postpone it to allow for a better organized exercise.”
“The exercise will be conducted in the second half of this year, as another layer of our relationship with the U.S.,” Barak added.
