Do you ever get the feeling that you just need a change in your home décor but do not have the time or the big budget?

I know I do, as well as so many people that I know.  Today’s world is in a constant rush for change and we may not have the ability to change around our homes and keep it exciting as much as we would like to.  From my experience in the field of interior design, I will give you three tricks to refresh your home – which will be wallet friendly and quick!
From both growing up and working in Brooklyn for many years, I know that most of the homes here lean towards the traditional style, which is always beautiful.   Although, sometimes we need a change to keep things fresh!  One of my favorite things to do is to mix both the modern and traditional styles, it keeps things unexpected, interesting and original.   Follow these tips below and you will have the trendiest home on the block!
Tip #1: Reupholster something unexpected in a fun pattern
For example, the back of a chair is a great area to reupholster.  It will become a conversation piece and make all the furniture in that room become more interesting.  It can also tie in loose ends that are in the room, depending on what type of print you will pick.  We did this in one of our client’s dining rooms and her guests do not stop raving about it!
Tip #2:  Modern artwork on a traditional wall
Modern artwork on a traditional wall or in a traditional space adds a lot more character to the room.  Instead of your home looking like you designed it all in one shot it will look like you are constantly refreshing it and keeping it updated. It adds creativity with a kick to the space.
Tip #3: Bring on the drama!
What best way to add drama to an otherwise bland room? Contrast! It will give the space a sense of depth and oomph!  You can add contrast by just placing fun accessories throughout the room, or you can go as far as to painting the molding on your walls in a strong contrasting color.  This adds a theatrical element that will definitely spice up your home!
Take a look at this foyer-we needed to work with the existing chandelier and other traditional elements present throughout the house.  Always remember – The foyer is a preview to what you will find inside, so make sure it is exciting!
Please enjoy these tips and let me know how they worked out for you!
