In his campaign for NY State Senate, Councilman Lew Fidler (above) has hired veteran political stategist Kalman Yeger to manage his campaign. In another attempt to cement his relationship with the Orthodox Jewish community, Councilman Lew Fidler has hired political strategist Kalman Yeger to manage his campaign for the New York State Senate seat vacated by Carl Kruger. This move complements Fidler’s recent spate of ads outlining his lengthy record of support for the Orthodox community, including the securing of $15 million in government funding for numerous Jewish groups including Agudath Israel of America, Hatzolah and Shomrim.

A seasoned political strategist who has managed many election campaigns, Yeger is also an expert in the area of New York City campaign finance. Most recently, he served as the senior adviser to David Greenfield’s successful campaign for New York City Council. He is also a senior adviser to Bronx Borough President and possible mayoral contender Ruben Diaz, Jr. The 37-year-old Yeger is a lifelong resident of the Midwood district that Fidler is hoping to represent.

Furthering the belief that Fidler is actively pursuing the Orthodox vote, an anonymous source is claiming that Fidler will meet this week with Councilman David Greenfield to discuss his positions on increased funding for yeshivas. “Funding for yeshiva education is Greenfield’s number one issue in the state,” the source stated. “Fidler has a great track record in the city on these issues, but in the state these issues are more complex. If Fidler agrees with Greenfield’s positions, it will go a long way in locking down his full support for Fidler’s senate race.”
