Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan called for the disqualification of several Israeli Arab lawmakers who paid a visit to a senior Muslim cleric after he was banned from the Temple Mount for a week over his incitement to terrorism.

Former Mufti of Jerusalem and the current head of the Higher Islamic Council Sheikh Ikrima Sabri was summoned for questioning by the police on Sunday and was subsequently banned from the Al-Aqsa Mosque for one week.

He was summoned by the police for questioning after delivering his Friday sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque that led to violent marches and unrest on the Temple Mount. He was also told to appear at the police station in one week for further interrogation and possibly to extend his ban.

In a show of sympathy for the Muslin preacher, Israeli-Arab Members of Knesset from of the Joint List faction visited Sabri on Monday at his home in Jerusalem and condemned Israel’s for its preventive actions.

IDF Radio, which reported on the meeting, said that the MKs, including Ahmed Tibi, criticized Israel for the ban which they claimed was meant to limit Muslim worship on the Temple Mount, and that they would petition the Jordanian Waqf for help.

Erdan criticized the MKs while noting that “Sabri incites and supports terrorism.”

“The sympathy visit of the members of the Joint List is further proof that they are harmful to the State of Israel and to the Israeli Arabs, and most of them should be disqualified from running for the Knesset,” he stated.

“We will continue to strengthen our sovereignty on the Temple Mount and ban agitators from it,” he added.

Sabri, a former Palestinian Authority Mufti, has previously lent support to terrorism and suicide bombings and is linked to the Hamas terror organization. He has incited against the Jewish State on multiple occasions.

In a May 2012 interview on the Saudi channel Al-Arabiya TV, Sabri said that Jerusalem is not holy to the Jews, and his proof was that “for many tears, they have been digging for archaeological remains, but they haven’t found anything,” a falsehood.

In July 2018, he accused Israel of generating artificial earthquakes and was “preparing something” to harm Al-Aqsa.

In a somewhat related development, TPS reported on Tuesday that the IDF carried out a special counterterrorism operation in Judea and Samaria in the past month and a half in Arab areas during which it exposed and confiscated dozens of illegal guns and other weapons.

The forces seized 13 handguns, 25 Carlo submachine guns, two M16 assault rifles and ammunition. All weapons and ammunition were transferred to the security forces, an IDF spokesperson said Monday.

In addition, the troops seized hundreds of thousands of shekels in funds meant for terrorism.

Finally, the forces exposed and shut down five workshops throughout Judea and Samaria that were used to manufacture illegal weapons.

Israeli forces have been conducting an ongoing campaign against the illegal weapons production and trade in the Palestinian Authority.

The forces have shut down dozens of weapons production plants and have seized tens of machines and hundreds of weapons.

Israeli forces have arrested hundreds of suspects tied to the production and selling of illegal weapons, used in many cases against Israel’s civilians in terror attacks.
