Jewel theft at Trump Tower? Sounds like the beginning of a nifty novel.

It isn’t.

According to published reports, the New York City Police Department is checking out the possibility that over $350,000 in jewelry were purloined from a pair of two apartments at the ritzy address.

Both thefts were reported to police since the first of September, and police officials suspect one or both were an inside job.

“It’s not somebody breaking into the building or roaming the halls, trying the doors until they find one that’s open,” a source told the New York Post.

“One victim, a 67-year-old woman who lives on the 42nd floor, told cops she found five gem-encrusted accessories missing from a drawer in her closet, sources said,” according to the Post. “The stash, valued at $236,000, included a Harry Winston diamond bracelet and a diamond-and-emerald necklace, sources said.

“The woman also said that a pair of earrings, a necklace and a ring — all dripping with diamonds and sapphires — disappeared between June 21 and Sept. 9, sources said,” the Post added. “The other theft involves a $117,000 Graff diamond bracelet owned by third-generation art dealer Isabelle Bscher, who said it was swiped from her 59th-floor pad sometime between Sept. 4 and 9, sources said.”

Trump plans to stay at his penthouse Sunday night. He’s to deliver a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

The posh address has been in the news for other reasons, of late. On Friday, a judge “ordered President Donald Trump to provide video testimony as part of an upcoming lawsuit brought by protesters who say they were assaulted by Trump’s security guards during a 2015 protest outside of Trump Tower,” CNN reported.

“The trial centers around a protest in September 2015 in front of Trump Tower in New York City where two protesters wore parody Ku Klux Klan outfits to protest Trump’s rhetoric on illegal immigration, according to the initial court filing,” CNN continued. “The lawsuit brought by five men who describe themselves in a complaint as “human rights activists” alleges that Trump’s head of security, Keith Schiller, hit a protester, Efrain Galicia, in the head after Galicia tried to stop Schiller from taking their large cardboard signs, which read, “Trump: Make America Racist Again.” The filing says that when Galicia tried to hold onto one of the signs, Schiller ripped it away from him, tearing it to pieces.”
