Just two days before he was found dead in his prison cell at New York City’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein signed a will, according to The New York Post, which obtained the document.

The Post reported that the will was dated August 8th. The court papers list the financier’s assets at about $577 million and they also list Epstein’s younger brother Mark as the only heir to his brother’s fortune.

Jeffrey and Mark Epstein were raised in the Sea Gate section of Brooklyn, near the western tip of Coney Island. Jeffrey Epstein attended Lafayette High School in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn.

Among the assets, the will lists more than $56 million in cash and another $14 million in fixed income investments, according to a CNN report.

On Friday, it was reported by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Epstein’s cause of death was suicide by hanging.

Epstein was arrested on July 6th as he disembarked from his private plane that was arriving back in New York City from Paris, France. He then pleaded not guilty to charges by New York federal prosecutors after an indictment accused him of running a sex trafficking ring of underage girls, some as young as 14, according to a CNN report. He was set to go to trial next year.

On Monday, the Justice Department said that Attorney General William Barr removed the acting head of the Bureau of Prisons, replacing the agency’s top official in the wake of Epstein’s suicide.

In a statement, Barr said Hugh Hurwitz, who had served in the acting position since last year, would return to the assistant director position he formerly occupied, according to a CNN report. Dr. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, who led the bureau from 1992 to 2003, will be the new director, Barr said.

Barr has said he was “appalled” and “angry” to learn of the suicide, and cited “serious irregularities” at the Manhattan facility where Epstein had been detained.

Last week Barr said, “Let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein. Any co-conspirators should not rest easy. The victims deserve justice, and they will get it.”

Barr had already shaken up the top leadership at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, announcing last week that the facility’s warden would be reassigned while the FBI and Justice Department’s inspector general investigated the conditions leading up to the suicide, according to a CNN report.

CNN also reported that Prince Andrew of the British royal family has said he is “appalled” by the sex abuse claims against Epstein who was a former associate.

The Duke of York released a statement Monday after footage emerged over the weekend which claimed to show the royal inside the convicted pedophile’s New York mansion in 2010 — two years after Epstein first pleaded guilty to sex crimes.

The Palace referred CNN to the statement it released Monday, which said: “The Duke of York has been appalled by the recent reports of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes. His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behavior is abhorrent.”

Buckingham Palace also referred to a statement it issued to CNN last month, which said: “The Duke of York accepts it was unwise to have met Mr. Epstein in December 2010. The Duke has not met with Mr. Epstein since.” The statement was originally issued to CNN in response to a Daily Mail story that alleged Prince Andrew attended a party at Epstein’s Manhattan mansion in 2010.
