Israel’s Channel 12 reported on Sunday that the United States signaled it won’t stand in the way of Israeli moves to extend sovereignty over Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

According to a Channel 12 report on Sunday, President Donald Trump’s long-awaited “deal of the century” Mideast peace plan envisions all Jewish communities remaining under Israeli control, with Arab towns remaining under the Palestinians’ jurisdiction.

With regard to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s campaign vow to extend sovereignty to Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, the Channel 12 report claimed that the U.S. will not actively oppose or object to such a move.

Currently, close to half a million Israeli Jews live in Judea and Samaria, in small towns and larger communities alike. Israel secured the territory when it defeated Jordan in 1967’s Six-Day War.

The Channel 12 report indicated that the U.S. would stop short of endorsing Israeli sovereignty over or annexation of communities in Judea and Samaria, and that Netanyahu is expected to proceed with his plan to extend Israeli civil law in those areas.

The U.S. recently recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which had been under Israeli control since the Jewish state defeated Syria in the Six-Day War.

Whether or not Trump’s Mideast peace plan conforms to the numerous purported leaks regarding its terms remains to be seen, with the plan’s official roll-out expected in June, following the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Trump advisers such as Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt have dismissed many of the leaks as false, but have also communicated that the plan will take an unconventional approach to the Israel-Palestinian peace process. (World Israel News)
