This is one ugly family affair. Elie Hirschfeld, of real estate fame, is facing a $50 million lawsuit from his three kids because they charge that he is not letting them have the parts of the family fortune to which they’re entitled.

The New York Post reports that Benjamin, Jonathan, and Matthew, who are 21, 20, and 19 respectfully, filed the lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court based around the claim that Elie “directly or indirectly” took away real estate property interests from his kids years ago during a divorce.

The suit goes on to detail how the kids think even now he is actively trying to hoard the assets for himself.

“Now, with Elie estranged from his three children, who have all recently reached the age of majority, Elie refuses to acknowledge plaintiffs’ interest in these properties or to account for the income these properties have been earning since these interests were irrevocably transferred to plaintiffs,” according to the court papers.

“Elie has hidden these interests from his children and continues to cover up these interests in an effort to defraud the plaintiffs. Indeed, a note by Elie contains the following ‘[o]nly liability is kids may sue me later.’”

Hirschfeld, the 69-year-old son of the late and legendary Abe Hirschfeld apparently has been very uncooperative in every way possible. He has not provided demanded information regarding the relevant business interests and income along with the people and entities responsible for managing everything, the New York Post reports.

“Plaintiffs now have their voices and are determined to receive from their father what rightfully belongs to them,” according to the lawsuit. If the sons have their way and get what they claim is rightfully theirs, then they could get some of the real estate along with access to a trust and the $50 million in damages, the New York Post reports.

Elie Hirschfeld told the New York Post that the lawsuit and its claims are “meritless.”

“The most innocent explanation for these meritless claims, dating back over 10 years, is that my sons and their lawyer simply are misinformed,” the elder Hirschfeld said. “Unfortunately, another likely explanation is that the claims are another in a series of legal battles related to the contentious divorce between me and my sons’ mother.”

The Jewish Voice has reported about Elie’s dubious past before. A year before the death of Abe Hirschfeld, his son, Elie stopped an investigation into a mysterious fall that landed the frail parking lot magnate in the hospital, a lawyer alleged a few years ago.

“Mr. Hirschfeld told me that he had believed that his son pushed him down the stairs,” Simon Rosen writes in a damning Feb. 25 statement about Hirschfeld’s son, Elie. “Mr. Hirschfeld expressed concern that his son wanted to take control of his business affairs.”
