The search to replace former UN ambassador and also an ex-governor, Nikki Haley, got a little more interesting as one of the frontrunners decided that she does not want to be considered for the job anymore.
Heather Nauert, the former Fox News personality who works as spokeswoman for the State Department, announced yesterday that she does not want to be ambassador, CNN reports.
“I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary Pompeo for the trust they placed in me for considering me for the position of US Ambassador to the United Nations. However, the past two months have been grueling for my family and therefore it is in the best interest of my family that I withdraw my name from consideration. Serving in the Administration for the past two years has been one of the highest honors of my life and I will always be grateful to the President, the Secretary, and my colleagues at the State Department for their support,” according to a statement that Nauert sent through the State Department.
She wasn’t only a frontrunner but was actually going to be picked by the president, but her nomination was never sent through to the Senate for confirmation.
According to the State Department, the public shouldn’t expect to wait much longer for the president to choose another nominee who will then go to the Senate and go through the confirmation process, according to CNN.
CNN also reports that one problem for Nauert that could have complicated her confirmation process was that she hired someone to be her nanny who did not have legal status for working in the United States, although the person was legally in the country. The arrangement allowed for Nauert’s nanny to avoid paying some taxes.
Nauert, who started her current job in April of 2017, appears to be getting ready to leave that post, according to CNN sources.
