The Golden State Warriors basketball players have best been known for dominance on the court of basketball over the past few years. The team’s record-breaking feats and multiple championships keep them constantly in the headlines. Things are different this time. The team made news for reasons related to its success, but the stepped out of the boundaries of the court and waded into the volatile arena of politics.

When sports teams and other great achievers do something outstanding, like win a championship, the White House normally extends an invitation, a tradition spanning multiple administrations. The Warriors players decided to skip the White House event with President Donald J. Trump to instead hang out with former President Barack Obama,  Fox NY reports.

The snub is actually the second time the team didn’t meet the president after winning the N.B.A. title and in as many years. Last year, the team took a tour of the very popular National Museum of African American History and Culture, which was built only a few years ago. The team made this trip in lieu of a White House visit after Trump disinvited the team following criticism that some players and coach Steve Kerr made about him.

Fox NY and the Associated Press report that the meeting the Warriors had with Obama instead of Trump, as was evident from a photo posted to the team’s official Instagram account last Thursday. The Warriors social media account deleted the post at a later time.

“Whole gang with the 44th president of the United States today,” Fox and AP report the caption reading before deletion.
