Over the Past Decade: over 25,000 immigrants from all over the world chose Tel Aviv as their new home

For the 4th year (2014-2015-2016-2018), Tel Aviv is the #1 Aliyah destination, concluding 2018 with an additional 3,003 immigrants who chose to make Tel Aviv their new home in Israel. In the past year, Israel welcomed some 25,782 immigrants, according to a report by the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption. 11% of the new immigrants chose to settle in Tel Aviv, the Nonstop City. The report also showed that most of the immigrants who arrived in Tel Aviv this year hail from Russia (1,402), France (362) and the United States (307).

In the past decade, a total of 25,333 immigrants moved to Tel Aviv, most of them from France (5,885), Russia (6,265), the US (4,316), and the UK (1,109). The majority of these Olim are young, single, educated people under the age of 44 (14,142).

Tel Aviv embodies many of the things these young professionals are looking for when they come to Israel. On top of Tel Aviv’s attractive beaches, nightlife and culinary scene, the Startup City is also home to 1,700 early stage startups, the highest amount of startups per capita in the world. That constitutes 28 startups per square kilometer and 1 startup for every 290 residents. Tel Aviv is a perfect match for Olim who have a background in high-tech and engineering, as the Tel Aviv startup scene is looking to scale-up to international markets, providing plenty of jobs for International immigrants.

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality supports the Aliyah and absorption of new immigrants by offering them unique career benefits, including workshops covering important topics such as job search, resume writing and entrepreneurship, offered in 3 languages. All activities are done in cooperation with the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption. In addition, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality recently opened “Qualita” a hub that provides programs and services to help French speaking Olim find employment.

In addition, Tel Aviv is home to hundreds of synagogues and Jewish community centers, embracing people from every corner of the Jewish world, while adhering to the traditional Jewish values and traditions that link Olim to their heritage.

The Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai: “I feel honored to welcome the thousands of new immigrants who chose to make Tel Aviv their new home this year. Tel Aviv wouldn’t be what it is today without its Olim community, who chose to make a courageous leap, and leave their entire life behind for a brighter future in Tel Aviv and contribute by making the city more interesting, diverse and cosmopolitan”.
