200 guests attended the JCRC-NY’s third annual Winter Benefit Reception and paid tribute to Sandy and Stewart Cahn in recognition of their lifelong dedication to the Jewish people locally, in Israel, and throughout the world. Willy Pilku, owner of CORE Scaffold Systems, served as Corporate Benefactor; Birthright Israel, Melanie and Matthew Bronfman, Aaron Frenkel, Nancy and Paul Levy, Linda Mirels, Tina and Steven Price, Jeff Schoenfeld, and Cindy and Jacob Worenklein served as Sponsors; and multiple individuals and couples served as Supporters.
Highlights of the evening included a traditional NY/Jewish style smorgasbord of hot dogs and deli in the museum’s elegant Rotunda and tours of its exhibitions NY at Its Core–400 Years of NYC History, Port City 1609-1898 & World City 1898-2012. The festive and genial atmosphere continued during the program in Menschel Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Cahn accepted the gift, a menorah designed by American artist and one-time New Yorker Michael Aram, from Event Co-Chairs Carol and Jerry Levin.
The program also featured JCRC-NY Board Member and Development Co-Chair Marissa Shorenstein as emcee and the participation of Ambassador Dani Dayan, Consul General of Israel in NY; JCRC-NY President Charles S. Temel; JCRC-NY Executive Vice President and CEO Michael S. Miller; UJA-Federation CEO Eric Goldstein; and Event Co-Chair Matthew Bronfman. Cantor Netanel Hershtik performed, and he and Rabbi Peter Weintraub led the menorah lighting in celebration of the second night of Chanukah.
Mrs. Cahn has long been involved in fundraising for numerous major organizations. She co-founded Limmud FSU and UJA Federation’s Women’s Executive Circle, a group serving female CEOs, CFOs, and presidents of significant corporations. She serves on the Board of the American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and is a Past President of the Queens College Hillel. She currently serves on the Boards of UJA Federation and several other nonprofit organizations.
Mr. Cahn first joined JCRC-NY’s Board of Directors in 2012, and JCRC-NY has benefitted tremendously from his expertise and
guidance on many levels. Mr. Cahn is Co-Chair of UJA-Federation’s Banking and Finance Division and is a former Co-Chair of its
Entertainment Division. He served for several years as Chair of Israel Bond’s Banking Division Campaign.
