Reps. Maloney and Donovan Request Hearing on Holocaust Education Bill Following Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

In the wake of the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) and Dan Donovan (R-NY) formally requested that the House Committee on Education and the Workforce hold a hearing on their bipartisan bill to bolster Holocaust education across the country. The Never Again Education Act (H.R. 5460) was introduced in April 2018.

In their letter to committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) the members explain the importance and need for this legislation in light of Saturday’s attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue; “On Saturday, October 27th, 11 Jews were killed on Shabbat simply for being in synagogue and practicing their faith. This attack is believed to be the deadliest on the American Jewish community in our nation’s history. This is horrific and unconscionable and comes at a time when anti-Semitic incidents and online harassment are on the rise. The Anti-Defamation League reports that anti-Semitic incidents were up 57% in 2017, from the previous year. As we condemn this horrendous attack and the anti-Semitism that caused it, we also must ensure that our children and students understand the dangers of rising anti-Semitism and that they know its history. For if we do not learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it.”

Sounds like more empty lip service. If anything real is done about it, it will be by Republicans led by President Trump. What do these “leaders” have to say about President Clinton sitting with Farakhan, Al Sharpton, and Jesse ‘Hymie Town’ Jackson at Aretha Franklin’s Funeral. What do they have to say about all of the antisemites playing leading roles in the Democratic Party like Keith Ellison, Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory, Ilhan Omar, Julia Salazar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, and on and on. A party that demands that the U.S. resume funding for Palestinian terror? Who can take these clowns seriously?. A party that opposes the death penalty and the Second Amendment? Just vote Republican.

How on earth does trying to inspire empathy in 8th graders deal with the immediate threat to Jews living now? And that’s assuming such programs are not distorted and abused by Holocaust deniers as they have been in verious places. The problem is that liberals opposed the things that can be done. Mandatory death penalty and swift execution, empowering police to shoot to kill. Encouraging Jews and Jewish institutions to get legal guns and training and be armed and ready, banning anti-Israel incitement in schools and universities, expelling students, and firing teachers and professors who harass Jewish and pro-Israel students, defunding anti-Israel organizations. Defunding schools that won’t comply. Demanding that the leadership of the Democratic party expel and dissassociate from the antisemites — including all Israel Bashers who claim otherwise not to be or to be Jewish themselves — in their midst, Farakhan, Ellison, Sarsour, Mallory, Waters, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rashida Tlalb, Ilhan Omar, Julia Salazar, Bernie Sanders and on an on. But, it won’t happen. At least, not unless the Democrats suffer massive defeats and need to restructure as in the past.

You cannot legislate against people acting like a-holes. You can take away their guns if you are willing.
Stop the knee-jerk reaction thinking every episode can be fixed with a federal law.
