As the days leading up to the much pivotal mid-term elections on November 6 are fast approaching, most Americans have been exhorted to vote and exercise their civic responsibility to choose our congressional, state and local elected officials. Having said that, the media has for the most part focused on national races. While crucial in determining the balance of partisan influence in our federal legislature, many of us New York denizens and especially Brooklynites might find themselves in a perplexing quandary about who is on the ballot and who truly represents our interests.

Here are a number of candidates that the Jewish Voice is endorsing.

The Jewish Voice endorses Marc Molinaro for governor of New York State. He recently issued a full-throated condemnation of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and his vitriolic hatred of Jews on October 18th. Mr. Molinaro stated: “Louis Farrakhan’s blatant anti-Semitism must be met with universal condemnation from all U.S. political leaders of good will.”

FOR NYS GOVERNOR – Marc Molinaro – Mr. Molinaro is the GOP candidate in the New York gubernatorial race and faces incumbent Andrew Cuomo at the polls on November 6th. Mr. Molinaro issued a full-throated condemnation of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and his vitriolic hatred of Jews on October 18th. Mr. Molinaro stated:

“Louis Farrakhan’s blatant anti-Semitism must be met with universal condemnation from all U.S. political leaders of good will. Mr. Farrakhan has long espoused hateful and dangerous views, and sadly, his type of destabilizing rhetoric is infesting too many on the left and right. Those of us who cherish civility and reason must band together and speak as one — even when we honestly disagree on an issue — to protect a civil peace that must never be taken for granted. This state and nation are better than this and each of us has a role to play, including me.”

Running against longtime incumbent Jerry Nadler (D) in Manhattan’s 10th Congressional district is GOP candidate Naomi Levin. A fresh face on the political scene, Ms. Levin brings with her a new perspective on the issues that are important to residents of the district that she is vying to represent in Congress.

FOR CONGRESS IN NY’s 10th Congressional District – Naomi Levin – Running against longtime incumbent Jerry Nadler (D) in Manhattan’s 10th Congressional district is GOP candidate Naomi Levin. A fresh face on the political scene, Ms. Levin brings with her a new perspective on the issues that are important to residents of the district that she is vying to represent in Congress.

On the follow of the Iranian nuclear deal that was supported by her opponent, Ms. Levin issued the following statement on her web site:

“Iran’s recent drive toward domination has caused much destabilization in the Middle East and threatens our National Security. We cannot allow Iran to become a state sponsor of terrorism with nuclear capability. The Iran deal, championed by Congressman Nadler, was deeply flawed. It released over $100B to the world’s greatest state sponsor of terrorism, guarantees that Iran will become a threshold nuclear power in no more than 10 or 15 years, and has allowed Iran to proceed with its proliferation away from the eyes of inspectors. It also allows Iran to develop ballistic missiles that could deliver a nuclear warhead to the United States, and likely will set off a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. We need a plan to impose harsh economic sanctions on Iran. I would advocate for a sanctions timeframe and assess the efficacy. I will work with Congress to make sure we have a sound plan of action for Iran so that this problem can be resolved peacefully while we have the time.”

Dr. Jeffrey Ascherman would like to see our subways suffer fewer delays and malfunctions and be restored to a more peaceful environment where all users can enjoy their rides without disturbances or concerns for personal safety.

FOR NY State Assembly on Manhattan’s East Side in District 73 – Dr. Jeffrey Ascherman – Concerning his constituents’ interest in seeing a vast improvement in the NYC subway service, Dr. Ascherman issued the following statement on his web site.

“He would like to see our subways suffer fewer delays and malfunctions and be restored to a more peaceful environment where all users can enjoy their rides without disturbances or concerns for personal safety. To accomplish this, he believes in an increase in support for MTA police, a decrease in wasteful spending and regulation, and more efficient utilization of current resources. He would also like to see the New York State government and New York City leadership work more closely together on this issue.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin’s (GOP) top priorities in Congress include protecting America’s security at home and abroad, helping grow our economy and create more good paying jobs, supporting our veterans and first responders, improving the quality of education, repairing our nation’s infrastructure, improving healthcare in America and safeguarding our environment. FOR CONGRESS IN NY’s 1st District–Rep Lee Zeldin – Congressman Lee Zeldin’s (GOP) top priorities in Congress include protecting America’s security at home and abroad, helping grow our economy and create more good paying jobs, supporting our veterans and first responders, improving the quality of education, repairing our nation’s infrastructure, improving healthcare in America and safeguarding our environment. He is one of two Jewish Republicans in Congress

FOR CONGRESS IN NY’s 2nd District–Rep Peter King – Concerning his position on the threat of domestic terrorism, Rep King has stated:

“The threat of homegrown terrorism and violent Islamist extremist radicalization is the most prolific threat facing the Homeland. The people of New York were again reminded of this on Halloween when Sayfullo Habibullaveic Saipov killed 8 people in the name of ISIS and in December when ISIS-inspired would-be suicide bomber, Akayed Ullah, set off a homemade explosive device at the Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station. In the 112th Congress, in my capacity as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I held a series of hearings examining the extent of this threat. Since then, I have continued to try to shine a light on the problem of radicalization in the United States. With the multiplication of al-Qaeda-affiliated and jihadist groups worldwide, and the growth of ISIS, the threat of radicalization has worsened.”

FOR CONGRESS IN NY’s 8th DISTRICT – Rep Hakeem Jeffries

The Jewish Voice endorses Rep Hakim Jeffries for re-election in Brooklyn’s 8th congressional district

Rep Jeffries position on housing for New Yorkers in his district:

Rep. Jeffries said: “Public housing residents have been forced to live in conditions that are inhumane, unacceptable and immoral in a civilized society. It is time for that to change. Every American deserves to live in housing that is safe, decent and affordable, with heat, hot water, functional electricity, elevators that work and buildings that do not subject children to lead poisoning. That is why House Democrats are proposing an unprecedented $70 billion investment in our nation’s public housing.”

FOR STATE SENATE in BROOKLYN’s 17th DISTRICT – Senator Simcha Felder

An outspoken advocate for responsible neighborhood development, State Senator Simcha Felder worked to transform empty city-owned lots for community uses such as new housing and a Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance garage and headquarters. Simcha fought to secure City funding to add new playgrounds, open up and renovate schoolyards for public use, and plant thousands of new trees on city streets.”

The Jewish Voice offers a full-throated endorsement of Senator Simcha Felder for re—election as the state senator in Brooklyn’s 17th district.

“An outspoken advocate for responsible neighborhood development, Simcha Felder worked to transform empty city-owned lots for community uses such as new housing and a Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance garage and headquarters. Simcha fought to secure City funding to add new playgrounds, open up and renovate schoolyards for public use, and plant thousands of new trees on city streets.”

FOR STATE SENATE- NEW YORK DISTRICT 22- State Senator Marty Golden

The Jewish Voice endorses longtime incumbent State Senator Martin Goldin (Rep). As a lifelong Brooklynite, Goldin has his finger on the pulse of his constituents and has a stellar record in passing legislation that directly addresses the needs of those in his district. Goldin’s record of service is incomparable and he comes to the job with impressive credentials and vast experience in different offices in the public service capacity.

Goldin served as a member of the NYC Council from 1998-2002. He has served in the New York State Senate representing district 22 since 2002. From 2010-2015, Goldin served as assistant majority whip in the New York State Senate. He was also a former majority conference secretary in the New York State Senate. From 2017 to the present, Goldin is the majority conference vice chair in the New York State Senate. From 1973-1983, Mr. Goldin proudly served as a police officer in the NYPD.

Goldin has been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business and by the New York League of Conservation Voters and by the New York State Public Employees Association.

FOR CONGRESS IN NEW YORK- DISTRICT 19- John Faso

In Congress, Rep. John Faso is advocating policies to increase opportunity for families and supports reforms to boost the economy and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers. He has championed ideas to combat the heroin epidemic, treat Lyme disease and help our local economy.

The Jewish Voice endorses Rep John Faso (R-Kinderhook) for re-election to the House of Representatives. Faso was elected to represent the 19th District of New York in the United States Congress on November 8, 2016. The 19th District encompasses all or part of eleven counties in the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Catskills and Central New York regions of the Empire State. In Congress, Rep. Faso is advocating policies to increase opportunity for families and supports reforms to boost the economy and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers. He has championed ideas to combat the heroin epidemic, treat Lyme disease and help our local economy. As a first-term member of Congress, Mr. Faso has been appointed to the House Budget, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Agriculture committees.

On the topic of explosive devices being sent to leaders of the Democratic party and others who have gone on record in their opposition to the policies of President Trump, Rep Faso said on October 24, “Justice will be served for those responsible for the attempted attacks against President Obama, Secretary Clinton, and others. Actions like these run counter to our core American values and serve to do nothing more than divide and terrorize our country. I am grateful for the Secret Service and local law enforcement who work tirelessly to keep our country safe.”

FOR CONGRESS NEW YORK- District 11- Dan Donovan

Congressman Eliot Engel (D) has consistently opposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare, fighting Republican attempts to weaken these programs. For his dedication to these issues, he has received a 100% for his voting record from the Alliance for Retired Americans.

The Jewish Voice endorses Congressman Dan Donovan for re-election. As one of the few GOP members of the House of Representatives, Mr. Donovan has represented his constituents in both Staten Island and Brooklyn with integrity, guts and dedication.

Mr. Donovan endorsed President Trump in the 2016 presidential election. He has called Trump a “personal friend”. Trump endorsed Donovan’s 2018 re-election bid.

In June 2017, Mr. Donovan voted in favor of Kate’s Law, which would increase penalties for undocumented immigrants that return to the United States after being deported.

In September 2018, Mr. Donovan co-sponsored, together with Elise Stefanik and Seth Moulton, the “Cyber Ready Workforce Act” advanced by Jacky Rosen. The legislation would create a grant program within the Department of Labor to “create, implement and expand registered apprenticeships” in cybersecurity. It aims to offer certifications and connect participants with businesses in order to “boost the number” workers for federal jobs in said trade.

Mr. Donovan has also voiced his condemnation of virulent Jew haters such as the murderer of 11 Jews at the Eitz Chaim synagogue in Pittsburgh.

New York State Senate – Chele Farley

The Jewish Voice endorses Chele Farley for New York’s next United States Senator. Ms, Farley will provide every New York family with the opportunity to succeed. Specifically, Chele is focused on recapturing the $48 billion dollars more that New Yorkers pay in federal taxes each year than the state receives.

By addressing the unfair treatment of New York taxpayers, Chele intends to invest in the state’s crumbling roads and bridges and to fix the nation’s largest mass transportation system. Chele recognizes that these infrastructure improvements will create jobs, promote the state’s long-term economic health and ease the crushing burden placed on property taxpayers.

While incumbent US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand seems to assign blame for all the woes in NY state to President Trump, Farley has concrete suggestions as to how she will help improve life for New Yorkers. Her idea to make rent tax-deductible, just like home mortgages, is just one. Gillibrand promotes the removal of ICE and Farley stands in opposition to that. When Gillibrand did an about face on Israel, following the Democratic party line in not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital and moving the U.S. embassy there, Farley strongly supported the embassy relocation. When Gillibrand voted against the Taylor Force Act, denying U.S. funds to Mahmoud Abbas as long as he continues to reward PA terrorists who murder Jews, Farley was a strong supporter of the bill

NYS Attorney General: Keith Wofford

The Jewish Voice endorses Keith Wofford to New York State Attorney General. In terms of taking on the issues of jobs and the economy, Wofford knows that New Yorkers are the some of the highest taxed people in the nation. He does not want New Yorkers to be beholden to special interest groups.

The Jewish Voice endorses Keith Wofford for New York State Attorney General. In terms of taking on the issues of jobs and the economy, Wofford knows that New Yorkers are the some of the highest taxed people in the nation. He does not want New Yorkers to be beholden to special interest groups. He is also of the firm belief that undue regulations and bureaucratic red tape make it almost impossible to expand businesses and create new jobs. He feels that career politicians are strangling our economy, thus incentivizing people and jobs to flee New York State.

“To unlock the greatness of our state, we need a government that spends money honestly, and wisely—and supports policies that make New York a place for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. In some of New York’s most underserved communities, I have seen talent that equals or exceeds that which I saw at Harvard. To create jobs and grow our economy, we need to energize that talent and give them the opportunity to succeed, “ said Wofford.

Voters are tired of dirty career politicians who engage in this behavior – it’s time for a change. We need to elect an independent Attorney General to ensure that no one is above the law. Keith Wofford is the only candidate in the race for Attorney General that has the independence to stop the looting and lousy deals that are done across this State out of the taxpayers’ pockets.

FOR CONGRESS in NY’s 12th District – Eliot Rabin

The Jewish Voice endorse Eliot Rabin (Peter Elliott) for congress in New York City’s 12th district. As a former captain in the US army and a company commander, Mr. Rabin understands that elected officials garner the respect of their constituents through the expression of tolerance, civility, leadership and plain old common sense.

In the wake of the horrific murders of 12 Jews in Pittsburgh, Rabin said, “ Once again, the divisiveness in our wonderful country has raised its ugly head… The current shooting in the Jewish temple in Pittsburgh, ironically named the TREE OF LIFE, reflects the universal disease of antisemitism and racism. Lives have been cut short in a house of God by a villainous cretin whom some call human. Local law enforcement and the FBI deserve praise for their efficiency and the swift arrest of the suspect.

From the mass school shootings, to the Charleston church massacre, to the late bomb scare, and to all those with guns who have killed their families and sometimes themselves; is this what the Second Amendment intended? I don’t think so… As a US Army veteran (Captain) and gun owner, I abhor the insane lack of a common sense gun policy that should be made uniform throughout our country.”
