Israel has reopened its crossing with Syria on the Golan Heights for the first time in four years.

The crossing, which was closed in 2014 due to the civil war, was opened on Monday morning.

According to the IDF, the crossing will be used for UN forces who intend to cross over and return. This will be done to assist with implementing the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria, which focuses on an area of separation – or demilitarized zone – between the two countries.

The Nasib trade crossing between Jordan and Syria, which was closed in 2015, has also been reopened.

In other news, the IDF fired at a Hamas position in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday afternoon.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the air strike took place after two terrorists approached the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip and placed an explosive device near the fence.

The bomb exploded in the Gaza Strip and the fence was badly damaged. There were no casualties.

A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed during an attempted stabbing attack at the Gitai Avishar Junction in northern Samaria.

According to the IDF, “a Palestinian attempted to stab a soldier at a bus stop. Our troops fired at him and he was killed. There were no casualties among our forces.”

Two soldiers are usually on guard at the bus stop, which stands next to a main highway close to town of Ariel. The site has been the scene of several terrorist attacks in the past.

Samaria Regional Council head, Yossi Dagan, who arrived at the scene soon after the thwarted attack commended the soldiers for their fast response.

“The soldiers’ vigilance and their quick action saved lives and prevented a terror attack,” Dagan said.

According to Palestinian media, the terrorist was a 22-year-old from the village of Bidya, located 32-kilometers south of Nablus.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

This is the third terrorist attack to take place in the northern West Bank in the space of a week.

On Thursday, a 32-year-old IDF reservist soldier was moderately injured, while a woman in her twenties was lightly wounded in a terrorist attack Samaria Territorial Brigade base.

The terrorist escaped, but was caught late on Thursday night by Israeli forces.

Last Sunday, a terrorist shot and killed Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, 28, and Ziv Hagbi, 35, in a terrorist attack at the Alon factory in the Barkan Industrial Zone.

The terrorist, Ashraf Naalwa, escaped the scene and manhunt is still underway to find him. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.
