Presidential hopeful and former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg has exceeded his original pledge of $80 million for the campaigns of Democratic candidates in the upcoming mid-term elections and will spend up to $100 million in the hopes of flipping the House to Democratic control in a “Blue Wave” in November.

During the 2016 presidential race, Bloomberg shelled out $65 million for Democratic candidates. Forbes estimated Bloomberg’s net worth at $53 billion.

During his three mayoral campaigns, the New York City former mayor spent $268 milion.

Axios has now reported that he’s adding another $20 million as he considers a White House run in 2020.

Bloomberg’s political positions are in sync with Democrats on issues from gun control to climate change to abortion rights.

A Bloomberg adviser told Axios that half of the contributions he is making to ensure a Democratic win the mid-term elections will be spent on women candidates. The adviser said, “We want to take a Category 3 storm and turn it into a Cat 5.”

Bloomberg said on his midterm spending for women, “”We should have a better balance — I’ve always been in favor of that in business and everything else.”

Bloomberg was on the world stage yesterday at his second annual Bloomberg Global Business Forum and a companion One Planet Summit. The confab drew 70 heads of state who were in New York City for the UN General Assembly and 200 CEOs.

Among those present at the forum were such high profile personalities as Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, French President Emmanuel Macron, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, private equity titans Stephen Schwarzman and Larry Fink, Jeb Bush, Cindy McCain, Steve Case, Steve Rattner, Andrew Ross Sorkin and more.

Reacting to President Trump’s speech last Tuesday at the UN, Bloomberg said, “I would rather laugh with than laugh at. I think our president, for reasons I don’t understand, says things that just elicit that kind of response. It has nothing to do with his policies. I disagree with most of them and that’s a separate issue.”

He added that, “Trump is a real estate guy, a promoter. … And so he comes from a world where you exaggerate; there’s a lot of hyperbole. You’d think by now somebody would have taught him, ‘You don’t say those things.'”
