A couple in Sussex County New Jersey awakened Saturday morning to swastikas and other vulgar language and depictions spray painted on their garage and lawn sign in support of U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer.

The red, white and blue placard in support of Gottheimer, a U.S. Representative of New Jersey’s 5th congressional district was the second attack in recent weeks.

Written in black spray paint, the words “Vote MAGA, Libs suck. Go to CALI Dems,” covered the campaign sign. In addition to the spray painted images, there were signs that the vandals tried to force the door open.

The home, which is in Hampton Township, New Jersey, was also vandalized with a huge swastika painted on the garage door. In addition to the campaign sign, a bright yellow real estate broker sign by Weichert on a property nearby was also vandalized not only with swastikas but also with images of male genatalia. Also, a nearby road sign also was defaced with these images.

Adam Stolarsky, 48, who lives with his girlfriend Colleen Murch, said that he was “first alerted by a text from our neighbor.”

The sign had been put up in the middle of the month only to have it knocked down two days later adding that there were hand prints all over the garage.

An investigation is underway by New Jersey State Police according to Sgt. Jeff Flynn, a public information officer.

Congressmen Gottheimer, who is Jewish, has encountered anti-Semitism in campaigns in previous elections campaigns. Two years ago, a flier went around characterizing him with devil’s horns and a goatee, surrounded by gothic lettering. Both Republicans and Democrats joined together to denounce the message as anti-semitic.

Congressman Gottheimer is currently running against Republican John McCann for a second consecutive term. Mr. Gottheimer issued a statement saying he was appreciative by the swift response from the State Police.

The congressman said that there’s “no place for white supremacists or anti-Semitism in our broader community, and this vile hate-motivated crime certainly does not reflect the values of the people of Sussex County.” John McCann issued a strong statement saying that “the anti-Semitic actions in Sussex County are abhorrent.”

Hampton Township is a small town in northwestern part of Sussex County, is 95 percent white. In defiance, Mr. Stolarsky, who is Jewish has already put up a new sign in his support of the congressman.

“I never expected to find a swastika painted on my house any day in my lifetime, but here we are.”
