Linda Sarsour, well-known Democratic activist who helped organize the Women’s March on Washington, reportedly has close ties to Imam Siraj Wahhaj, father of Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, who was arrested last week. Imam Siraj Wahhaj is a Muslim cleric who leads a mosque in Brooklyn, and is a prominent leader of the Muslim Alliance in North America. He has been called an “unindicted co-conspirator” of the World Trade Center terror attacks. As reported by Breitbart News, authorities suspected he was connected to the bombings, but prosecutors never filed charges against him.
Linda Sarsour has called Imam Wahhaj, 68, a “mentor” during an Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) conference in 2017. She said, “My favorite person in this room, that’s mutual, is Imam Siraj Wahhaj, who has been a mentor, and motivator and encourager of mine, someone who has taught me to speak truth to power and not worry about the consequences, someone who has taught me we are on this earth to please Allah, and only Allah, that we are not here to please any man or women on this Earth, so I’m grateful to you, Imam Siraj … I’m grateful to you Imam Siraj, God bless you and protect you for a long time because we need you now more than ever.” She has also quoted him and spoken flatteringly of him on several occasions on her twitter feed.
Last month, Iman’s son, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 39, was arrested after a raid of his home, where he was found armed with multiple firearms, and an assault rifle. His raided property, home to 11 malnourished children in Amalia, New Mexico, was reportedly filthy and littered with shotgun shells, dirty diapers, journals about faith, as well as a DVD about killing techniques in close combat. The decomposed dead body of small boy was also found there. The boy is believed to be his son, three-year-old, severely disabled, Abdul-ghani Wahhaj. Last winter the boy went missing from Georgia, and a man hunt ensued to find him. Investigators are awaiting results from the state medical examiner confirming the boy’s identity and the cause of his death. In the meantime, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, is also being accused of allegedly training children to use firearms in preparation for future school shootings.
As per CNN, in a recent interview, Imam admitted, “My son can be a little extreme”. He said he himself, however, was open to finding the truth, and says he helped pass on information to authorities which led to his son’s arrest.
A spokesperson for Imam Wahhaj’s Brooklyn mosque spoke up on Facebook on Thursday, belittling the situation as media misinformation. “They’re not bringing up accurate events — they’re bringing up false narratives,” said spokesman Ali Abdul-Karim Judan. “Look how this case has turned from a domestic situation, and now they’re trying to create an atmosphere where his son is involved with an extremist radical group.”
