The New York Jewish Voice is proud to endorse and support Congressman Ron DeSantis in his run for the Governorship of Florida. He will be in a two man Republican primary on August 28th. Currently Ron, although not Jewish and represents a district that is almost devoid of Jewish voters, is an outspoken champion of Israel in Congress. Unlike our own Senator Schumer who had better things to do that day, Ron went to Israel on his own dime to help commemorate the opening of the American Embassy in Jerusalem on May 14th. He had these heartfelt words to say while in the Holy City on that huge day: “The establishment of our embassy in Jerusalem fulfills long standing US policy as enacted by the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995. It was an honor to be there at this historic occasion! Thanks to President Trump for being the first president to honor his promise to establish this embassy. He didn’t hesitate for a minute to fly out there to be part of history.
This guy is a tough, American hero and an all around guy. He was born into a Florida blue collar family and in 1991 was a member of the Dunedin, Florida, Little League Baseball team that made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. While working his way through Yale University (Is that done anymore?) not only was he the captain of the varsity baseball team, he was graduated magna cum laude. He went on to be graduated from Harvard Law School with honors. He served as a JAG officer in the U.S. Navy and deployed to Iraq during the 2007 troop surge as an advisor to a U.S. Navy SEAL commander. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal among other citations and still serves as a Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserves. No one can doubt his commitment and love for this country.
He is supported in his run for governor by President Trump who stated that, “Ron is strong on borders, tough on crime and big on cutting taxes. He loves our military and our vets. he will be a great governor and has my full endorsement.” DeSantis has called for a border wall with immigration to be limited to those who line up and follow our rules for citizenship. He reminded an audience in Florida that his family are Italian immigrants who waited to be accepted into this country….legally. He has backed and supported the tax reduction that has put dollars into the pockets of all Americans across the board. He has called for the Veterans Administration to permit vets the freedom to be covered to go outside of the VA system for prompt, efficient life saving medical care. At the same time he demands the VA upgrade its own facilities.
DeSantis has called out the Palestinians for their outright refusal to show any peaceful intent with Israel. He has put the full blame for the crisis between them and Israel on their shoulders. Ron has called the PA and HAMAS the thugs of the Middle East and has condemned the United Nations for their seemingly never ending support of Palestinian terror. And remember, he is not pandering to Jewish voters by supporting Israel. Unlike Schumer, Nadler, Debbie Schultz, Ted Deutch and the other Democrat legislators in D.C., his Jewish constituency is nearly nil. He supports Israel because that is what his conscience and his sense of dignity tell him to do. That’s why he gets our support in the upcoming Florida Primary election for Governor on August 28th. If you’re a registered Florida voter, get off your butt, go to the polls or mail in your absentee ballot and cast your vote for Ron DeSantis, a family man, hero veteran, Make America Great Again guy and a real mensch.
