IDF Troops Apprehend Seven in Search of Soldier’s Killer

IDF Forces operated in the El Amari Refugee Camp near Ramallah Monday morning, in a search for the terrorist who dropped a marble slab on the head of Sergeant Ronen Lubarsky during an operation on Thursday, fatally injuring him. Lubarsky died of his wound Saturday. Clashed broke out between the forces and local Palestinians, who began throwing rocks at the soldiers. Five Palestinians were injured in the clashes. The forces left the refugee camp with Seven Palestinian suspects in custody.

Over the course of Sunday night, Security forces including IDF, Shin Ben, Border Police and Israel Police apprehended 11 wanted Palestinians suspected of involvement in terrorist activities and violent protests against security forces and civilians. In Hebron, During a raid on a house in the Abu-Snina neighborhood, IDF forces discovered a Carl Gustav submachine gun hidden in a home and confiscated it.

In a related development, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) carrying explosives crossed the border from Gaza into Israel a few days ago, the IDF released for publication Monday morning.

Military sources said the UAV was meant to explode in Israeli territory, presumably in one of the towns adjacent to the border. While the UAV did make the journey into the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, the explosives were never set off, and the UAV fell in Israeli territory without causing any injuries.

The UAV was taken by security forces for further investigation, a military spokesperson said.

“A few days ago, during the night hours, a UAV was located, estimated to have crossed the border into Israel from the Northern Gaza Strip,” the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement. “The UAV landed in territory belonging to the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council. Explosives were discovered on the UAV,” he added.

Also, the IDF shelled a Hamas observation post in the Gaza Strip Monday after a border patrol came under fire, a military spokesman said.

Hamas said that one of its members, 25-year-old Mohammed al-Rudeia, was killed in the incident and another man wounded.

No Israelis were hurt.

The incident began when IDF troops detained two Gaza residents who tried to breach the border fence carrying knives, wire cutters, and flammable materials.

The detainees were handed over to the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) for questioning.

Minister of Homeland Security Gilad Erdan (Likud) has instructed the Israel Prison Service not to allow security prisoners who are members of Hamas to view the FIFA World Cup tournament, which is set to commence on June 14th.

The decision was made Sunday afternoon, after Erdan held a special meeting with the Commissioner of Prisons Ofra Klinger, as well as the relevant legal authorities.
