On Thursday, May 10, police revealed that they arrested the Boro Park Shomrim safety patrol’s president on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl repeatedly in his home.
The politically connected 59-year-old Jacob “Yanky” Daskal was arrested at his home on 46th Street at approximately 12:30pm. Police said that it is at this location where the donor to multiple campaigns allegedly attacked the girl between August and November 2017.
According to The Post sources, investigators are looking into whether the abuse had gone on even longer than those few months. Daskal has friends in high places, according to insiders who told the news outlets that his generous donations got him close to elected officials.
One insider told The Post, “He’s a well-connected guy. In Borough Park, he’s a big deal — a macher,” or important person. The source said Daskal is especially close to retiring Assemblyman Dov Hikind. “It comes a complete shock. This is nuts. Yanky Daskal has grandkids.”
According to campaign-finance records show he was willing to donate big to his top political causes. State campaign finance records show that in 2009, Daskal gave $1,000 to Mayor de Blasio’s bud for public-advocate bid, and since 2004, Daskal has donated close to $9,300 to his pal Hikind.
The records also show that in 2008, he gave corrupt former state Senator Malcolm Smith $1,000, and since 2007, he has donated more than $4,500 to the campaigns of state Senator Simcha Felder.
According to The Post, “Meanwhile, pols were funneling cash into the Boro Park Shomrim volunteer safety group over which he presided. The organization reaped $425,708 in eight city contracts alone between 2010 and 2015, according to Politico New York. City records indicate Daskal works as a principal at G & J Realty. The company is registered to Daskal’s 46th Street address, state business records show. Daskal is being charged with felony third-degree rape, as well as forcible touching, sex abuse, criminal sex act and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, police said.”
While all of Daskal’s neighbors were shocked by the allegations, not all had nice things to say about him.
One unnamed neighbor told The Post, “He isn’t nice. He puts his garbage on my sidewalk and leaves it out. Nasty man.”
Although Daskal has not been charged in this case, his Boro Park Shomrim has been entangled in scandal involving NYPD gun-permit-fixing that reach high ranking officers as well as two de Blasio donors.
