The wild world of professional wrestling is not the place you would expect to find “nice Jewish boys”, especially since there is a lack of Jewish athletes in many other professional sports. You have to dig real hard to find a Jewish NHL player or MLB player, however in the theatrical world of “sports entertainment” there a quite a few to mention, and some of them were big stars.

1.Randy “Macho Man “Savage- Next to Hulk Hogan and the great Andre The Giant, “The Macho Man “ is one of the most recognizable face of 1980’s and 1990’s professional wrestling. Born in 1952, he passed away in 2011, Randy Mario Poffo (his actual name) came from a professional wrestling family. His father was a wrestler as well as his brother. His mother was Jewish, so that would make the Macho Man a member of the tribe. Savage was one of the biggest stars of the 80’s and 90’s, headlined matches around the world and had famous feuds with all the top names. He held all the major wrestling titles and headlined Wrestle-mania. Famous for his outrageous interviews and colorful costumes, his passing in 2011 was a sad moment for wrestling fans. Few knew the “Macho Man”, was a Jewish athlete.

2, Dean Malenko- Dean’s birth name is Dean Simon and both of his parents are Jewish. He is a third-generation wrestler. Malenko is known for his technical wrestling skills, as opposed to the standard brawling and acrobatics many professional wrestlers use as part of their performance. His father used the ring name Boris Malenko. Dean wrestled a long career starting in 1979 until his retirement in 2001. He wrestled in every major promotion, WWE, WCW, ECW and in Japan. He held many major titles and is WWE superstar Daniel Bryan’s inspiration. He is retired and married with 3 kids.

3, Paul Heyman- Paul is a famous pro-wrestling manager, promoter and writer. His mother was a holocaust survivor and his father is also Jewish. From a young age of 11, he was fascinated with pro wrestling and sports memorabilia. Heyman became famous for his theatrical antics, and is one of the best pro wrestling managers in the business. He began is wrestling career as a photographer for Vince McMahon and the WWF, moved on to the now defunct NWA and called himself Paul E Dangerously and managed many “bad guy wrestlers”. He has always portrayed a villain in the ring, getting the crowd worked up with his questionable antics. In the late 90’s he headed the influential wrestling group ECW, which was very innovative in their presentation of wrestling. Today he writes for WWE and Vince McMahon and makes TV appearances as the manager for the superstar Brock Lesnar, who also competes in the Ultimate Fighting. Heyman still drives the crowd wild, when he walks to the ring with Lesnar. He is a proud Jew and his mom died at age 81
