Brooklyn Point in Downtown Brooklyn, a brand-new luxury condo, will offer residents the highest rooftop pool in New York City once it is completed, says builder Extell Development.

The official address of the 68-story tower, which is located at 138 Willoughby Street – a part of the City Point commercial and residential complex — will be 1 City Point. The edifice is the handiwork of veteran developer Gary Barnett, founder and president of Extell Development.

Brooklyn Point will reportedly be the tallest residential building in Brooklyn. It is scheduled to be surpassed not long after its debut, however, by a 73-floor building that will sit as 9 DeKalb Ave.

Set to be completed in early 2021, Brooklyn Point will reportedly include 458 residential units ranging in size from one to three-bedrooms, with price tags covering the gamut from $840,000 to $4 million. Residents will also enjoy such features as a fire pit, yoga studios, wine rooms and Roy Lichtenstein-inspired ceramic wall art.

Barnett, who initially made his fortune in the diamond trade, has come to be known as much for his drive and ambition as for his talent. As the Jewish Voice recently reported, the developer known for launching Billionaire’s Row was hard at work in 2017 aiming to transform the city’s Diamond District.

Barnett carefully bought up nearly a dozen buildings in the Diamond District’s 47th Street, 46th Street and Fifth Avenue corridor. According to the New York Post, he is said to be planning to demolish all of them in order to build a giant luxury hotel.

Indeed, The Real Deal reported at the end of January that Extell Development had filed plans to raze another pair of buildings on 47th and 48th Streets. Barnett’s firm has submitted demolition plans for both 25 West 47th Street and 30 West 48th Street, according to Curbed. Both of the buildings sit near 10 others that Extell tried to knock down two years ago. Several have already been given the go-ahead by city fathers.

Barnett’s Extell Development won widespread respect with its 157 W. 57th Street project, which included the Big Apple’s first-ever $100 million condominium. The company also initiated the group of super-towers that now tower over Central Park.

Barnett has proven to be a visionary. In 1989, he recognized the potential of the real estate market in the United States, with a focus on New York City. Barnett began acquiring real estate assets throughout the country and formed Extell Development Company. Today, he and his team of associates power one of the most recognizable full-service development companies in the city.
