US President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to withhold financial assistance  to  the Palestinians until they return to peace talks with Israel as he sat down with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, World Israel News Reported.

Trump stated in Davos, the Palestinians “disrespected us a few weeks ago by not allowing our great vice president to meet with him”.

Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last month enraged the Palestinian leadership, which resulted in the PA refusing to meet with Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to the Middle East earlier this week.

The president described Jerusalem’s status as the “hardest subject” in negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, an said he  “took it off the table; we don’t have to talk about it anymore.”

” Taking Jerusalem off the table effectively means taking peace off the table” said PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat, World Israel News Reported.

Responding on Thursday to President Trump’s comments at Davos, senior PA lawmaker and diplomat Hanan Ashrawi , labeled the President  and Vice President Pence ‘oppressors’, Arutz Sheva reportred

“Not meeting your oppressor is not a sign of disrespect, it is a sign of self-respect,” said Ashrawi.

Another spokesperson for the PA said that no meetings with the US government would be held until the White House renounces its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Arutz Sheva Reported
