Who would have thought, back when Trump gave his election victory speech, that he would be the first president to finally honor the bi-partisan congressional resolution, “The Jerusalem Embassy Act” of 1995, calling for us to move our embassy to Jerusalem? His campaign promise to do so was fulfilled in his talk to the world this past December 7th. He basically pounded the last dowel into the coffin of any plans the Palestinians had of having that city as their eventual capitol and may have also dumped the first shovel full of earth on their dreams of a having their own state.

The Arab and Muslim world now realize they have more on their plate than the problems of the Palestinians whom they all, to a nation, despise. Just look at the concern the countries bordering Israel have shown towards Palestinian “refugees” living in limbo-land and in deprivation since the end of the 1948 war they waged to exterminate Israel. Have Syria, Lebanon, Jordan or Egypt offered them citizenship or even legal residence within their borders? Or have they rather used the Palestinians as mere cannon fodder in order to destabilize the Jewish state with constant, daily threats and attacks? But now the jig is up. Even the predictable follow up vote in the General Assembly calling on the U.S. to reverse its decision on Jerusalem fell flat on its face. The Palestinians had been confident of at least 150 votes in favor of the resolution. However, they ended up with a third less than that to rebuke the Trump decision. This was a direct result of Nikki Haley’s comments in the General Assembly making it very clear that we would take action against those nations that voted against us in that chamber. They struck out and Israel is in the batter’s box.

In addition, key Arab states are now looking squarely into the eye of their real threat. And that is not Israel, but rather from another Muslim nation: Iran. It is clear that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and other Muslim states seem to be collaborating in an undercover manner, fairly extensively, with Israel in order to woo the Jewish state’s economic and military support And of course, to try to cut their losses regarding the vote. To that end, an Egyptian intelligence officer, Capt. Ashraf al-Kholi told the hosts of several influential talk shows in Egypt that although their nation would denounce the American decision, they should suggest to their audiences to accept the fact that Jerusalem will always be in Jewish hands. Ramallah, he stated, should be the major city for the Palestinians. This is major news! Not only have their former moderate Sunni allies lost interest in their cause but even the rank and file Palestinian street thugs have seen fit to ignore their leaders’ calls for rioting in the wake of Trump’s Jerusalem proclamation. They mainly stayed home. Perhaps we are now entering a new era of sanity with President Trump standing tall with Israel and calling the shots in the Middle East. Are we looking at another Winston Churchill? If so, our prayers have been answered. But let us continue to pray that the year 2018 finally brings peace to Israel and sanity to the world.
