Over 200 community members and congregants filled the Young Israel of Avenue K ballroom, Sunday evening, for the dual celebrations of Congregation Pri Eitz Chaim – Ocean Avenue Jewish Center’s 95th anniversary and the 40thanniversary of the congregation’s Morah D’Asrah, Rabbi Melvin I. Burg.

The dinner which drew former congregants from Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, Pennsylvania and Israel, featured a video history of the Rabbi and Rebbitzen’s active tenure with the congregation and in the community.

In addition to the presentation of citations from elected officials including Borough President Adams and Councilman Deutsch, the congregation’s President, Dean Baum, revealed a plaque dedicating the shul’s Beth Hamedrash to Rabbi and Rebitizen Burg.  Another surprise of the evening was the presentation, to the Rabbi and Rebitzen, of an Israeli flag that was flown over the Kotel.

Chairmen for the evening’s dinner were former congregation presidents Mitchell Hill and Sylvain Jakabovics.

Congregation Pri Eitz Chaim – Ocean Avenue Jewish Center, a modern Orthodox shul, is located at 2600 Ocean Avenue, between Avenues U and V, Brooklyn.  The Jewish Center houses the Jay-Harama Senior Center, Yeshiva Ohel Torah, a Sephardic Congregation and hosts an NCSY coed youth group in addition to a weekly schedule of classes that are open to community members.
