Hamptons Men Opt for Vasectomies to Avoid Paternity Suits

A “vasectomy” is a surgery performed on men whereby the tubes leading from the testicles to the penis are severed, preventing any semen from being released when a man ejaculates.  The surgery is apparently becoming very popular among single men (and married men looking to have affairs) in the Hamptons who desire a permanent method of getting any women pregnant during sex.  Many are saying it’s necessary as they are evidently being “targeted” by women looking to entrap them by getting themselves pregnant on purpose.

One such man is “Scott” a 30 something male model who claims that he is able to have sex with up to 10 different random women each summer and claims that up to 20% of the women he meets are trying to entrap their sex partners by getting deliberately pregnant.  As he claims, “I had a vasectomy a few months ago. Having a house in the Hamptons and being fairly well-off, [he earns $500,000 a year] I’ve encountered some problems — women try to get pregnant.” He asserts that sex partners of his have lied to him about whether they were using birth control or not. He states, “It’s a trick. [They say,] ‘I love you, [we] don’t need a condom.’ ”

The supposed goals of the women who would let themselves become pregnant on purpose are either child support for up 18 to 21 years from well-off men like Scott or a green card, since their child would now be born in the U.S. As Scott puts it, “Women want that Cinderella story [of happily ever after], but I’m noncommittal at this point in my life.”

Urologists who perform vasectomies are stating that more and more wealthy bachelors are asking for this surgery to be performed on them before the Hamptons season arrives.  It’s economically sensible for them. While a vasectomy can cost only $1,000 or so if covered by insurance, child support (if legally determined by a court) can be up to 17% of the father’s salary up to $400,000. If someone makes up to $1 million a year, they could expect to have to pay out up to $100,000 a year, a total amount of $2.1 million until their child turns 21.  As Dr. David Schusterman Zak (a urologist in Midtown) puts it, “This extortion happens all the time. Women come after them. [They get pregnant and] want a ransom payment.  Some guys do an analysis of the cost — for three days of discomfort [after a vasectomy], it’s worth millions of dollars to them.  I never see a poor guy asking for a vasectomy.  Rich guys are a population that’s abused a lot.”
