Executives from Monmouth Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, recently joined local officials in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially mark the opening of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center’s new satellite location in Howell.

Designed to make breast health services more convenient for area patients, the Wilentz Breast Center at Howell, one of three satellite locations, features expanded services, including general X-ray, along with screening mammography, bone density scanning and a high risk cancer assessment program with genetic counseling and testing on-site.

According to the National Cancer Institute, almost one in eight women born in the United States today will develop breast cancer at some time during their lives.

“The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center’s Long Branch campus opened in 1994 to bring together, under one roof, all preventive, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation, psychosocial and educational services for women concerned about their breast health,” said Frank J. Vozos, MD, FACS, Executive Vice President, RWJBarnabas Health and Chief Executive, Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus.  “Since that time, we have subsequently expanded to several satellite facilities. Through our Wilentz Center locations, we stress the importance of regular screening mammograms for early detection, when cancer is most treatable.”

“The opening of this newest satellite location of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center is a part of Monmouth Medical Center’s initiatives to advance the health and well-being of our community,” said Eric Carney, Chief Operating Officer, Monmouth Medical Center. “The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center at Howell offers western Monmouth County residents convenient access to screening mammography services in a comfortable and compassionate setting.”

At the event, Howell Mayor Theresa Berger praised RWJBarnabas Health for being a good partner to the town, and for the Wilentz Breast Center’s valuable services.

The Howell Wilentz Center is one of three satellite locations of Monmouth Medical Center’s Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center, the only breast center in Monmouth County and the first to be accredited in Monmouth and Ocean counties by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).The center also achieved status as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence, the highest certification level offered from the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC), and was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Commission on Quality and Safety and its Commission on Breast Imaging.
