Police and state prosecutors say there appears to be sufficient evidence to indict Prime Minister Netanyahu over his relationship with billionaire Arnon Milchan, Hebrew-language Channel 2 reported Monday.

The report followed a similar claim last Friday by the Haaretz newspaper that both Binyamin and Sara Netanyahu demanded expensive gifts from Milchan, such as cigars and champagne. The current report indicates that Milchan also gave Sara Netanyahu approximately $300,000 worth of jewelry.

Earlier Monday, Milchan fired back at MK Dudi Amsalem and other Likud backbenchers, who called into question the billionaires motives and honesty. Milchan said Amsalem’s attacks were ‘totally unfounded’ and showed how desperate some people were to prove their loyalty to their political master [i.e. Netanyahu].

Since the beginning of January, police have questioned Prime Minister Netanyahu, his son Yair and several members of the family’s inner circle about allegations of fraud, corruption and bribery. The allegations included a taped conversation between the prime minister and Yedioth Aharonoth publisher Arnon (Noni) Mozes that allegedly has Netanyahu promising to support legislation to limit the circulation of Israel Hayom, a free newspaper that has cut sharply into the profits of Yedioth Aharonoth, in exchange for positive coverage in the latter paper.

Police are expected to summon Netanyahu for another round of questioning later in the week. In the event of that the prime minister is indicted, prosecutors are expected to call Milchan as a witness for the prosecution.
