President Elect Donald Trump and his fellow tenants in Trump Tower, on Fifth Avenue near 57th Street, will need to adjust to the gridlock of housing a President –elect. As reported by Crain’s New York, Deputy Police Commissioner Stephen Davis said that the ongoing presence of police and secret service officials in one of Manhattan’s most congested locations would be unprecedented. Vehicles can expect additional traffic, and pedestrians in the packed neighborhood can anticipate delays and sidewalk lock-downs in the vicinity of the 58-story building.

New Yorkers can barely endure the inconvenience when a president visits for a few days. “We’re coming up on the holiday season, and we will need to work with the Secret Service to provide security at a stretch that includes the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, and all the shopping, the Bergdorf’s, the Gucci, every other known brand, and we will have to make it work,” Mr. Davis said. “There’s no getting around it. It could be a major inconvenience.”

On Wednesday, after the election results, thousands of people filled the streets around the skyscraper to protest Mr. Trump’s election. Hundreds of police flooded the area and sirens sounded throughout the night, with more than 20 protesters arrested. The secret service and the police will have a real challenge retaining acceptable traffic while protecting Trump Tower and the dozen buildings that carry the family name, including the 72-story complex near the United Nations, the tower on Wall Street and the hotels in Central Park and Soho.

NYC has already been considered among the riskiest U.S. terrorism targets since 1993, when the World Trade Center was attacked. When the United Nations General Assembly convenes each September, it costs about $1 million a day to guard Manhattan’s east side. This is the kind of security that may be necessary when President Trump will stay at his current Penthouse. NYPD’s 35,000 officers have already stretched to place a full-time force outside his residence since July, when Mr. Trump became the Republican nominee.

Since he was elected as the next President of the United States, the protection has intensified with unmarked cars and undercover officers standing on guard. In addition to the NYC locations, security step ups will be required at Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach club that Trump considers his second home; his golf club in Bedminster NJ, which he frequently used for meetings; and his Washington hotel, which opened in September only five blocks away from the White House and which may likely serve him during his presidency.
