Warner Bros. confirmed on Thursday November 3rd, that production has begun in and around New York in the “female-powered heist movie” Ocean’s 8. Sandra Bullock has been given the leading role in the much anticipated sequel. As per UPI Entertainment News, the picture boasts an all-star cast also including, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. The movie, which is set for release on June 8th of 2018, is being produced by Steven Soderbergh and Jon Kilik. The film will be directed by Gary Ross, who wrote the screenplay together with Olivia Milch. Village Roadshow is co-producing and co-financing the picture.

The movie follows Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 from 2001, Ocean’s 12 from 2004, and Ocean’s 13 from 2007. The films were inspired by Lewis Milestone’s 1960 original Ocean’s 11. According to The Numbers, worldwide box office sales for those movies respectively were $450 million, $362 million, and $311 million. The total gross for the trilogy was more than $1.1 billion worldwide. Not too bad, considering that total production budget for the movies was $280 million. Those movies all starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon.

In Oceans Eight, Bullock will play the leader of a group of robbers and cons who attempt to pull off a spectacular heist. The 52 year old actress and producer, is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses. According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, the Virginia-born actress has a net worth of $200 million. In 2015, she was named “Most Beautiful Woman” by People magazine. In 2010, Bullock was named Woman of the Year by People magazine. As an actress, her extensive list of movies includes Speed (1994), While You Were Sleeping (1995), Miss Congeniality (2000), Two Weeks Notice (2002), Crash (2004), The Proposal (2009), Gravity (2013), The Heat (2013), and Minions (2015). She has been awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama, for her role in the 2009 movie, The Blind Side.

As per Variety, Oceans Eight will open up on the same day as Paramount’s sixth Transformers movie. That movie will be a spinoff focusing on Bumblebee, the voiceless member of the autobots, from the 2007 Transformers film.
