The Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud Horrabonim (RAA/IGUD) held its monthly convocation at the King David Center in Brooklyn, NY which opened with an emergency press conference calling upon the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Israel to support the position of the Chief Rabbinate who oppose any and all innovations that serve to desecrate the sanctity of the Western Wall area.

Presidium Member of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud Horrabonim, Rabbi Yehoshua S. Hecht, emphasized that the purpose of this emergency press conference is to express support of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel as being the authority within the State of Israel on all matters pertaining to conversions, marriage, religious identity as well as being entrusted with the authority for overseeing the Jewish sacred sites within the Holy Land.

The Chief Rabbinate is on record as being strongly opposed to introducing any new prayer areas not in conformance with normative Halacha at the Western Wall area. Currently there is much tumult being spearheaded by non-Torah observant movements to effect changes at the KOTEL with the introduction of a mixed gender prayer area.

“The KOTEL area is a place that unites all Israel and ought to be free from the disruptions being supported by non-Torah movements that is being motivated by politics and power” said Hecht.

Joining Rabbi Hecht in making the press conference was Rabbi Shmaryahu Shulman, Honorary President Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud Horrabonim, Rabbi Yaakov Klass, a Presidium Member (RAA/IGUD) and Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, the Director of the (RAA/IGUD). Close to 65 member Rabbis of the RAA/IGUD attended the press conference.

The Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud Horrabonim was founded in 1942 with the mission of promoting authentic Torah Judaism in North America.

Currently, the (RAA/IGUD) represents a membership of well over 850 Orthodox Rabbis in the United States, Canada and overseas.
