The Jewish News Service (JNS.org) has named a new editor-in-chief, veteran journalist Karen McDonough.

She joins the team replacing Jacob Kamaras, who has led the news service since its inception in 2011.  Jacob recently left JNS in order to pursue other opportunities.

McDonough brings to JNS significant professional journalism experience, most recently as editor-in-chief of www.worldartstoday.com.  Through her leadership, the online arts magazine has gained an international following.

McDonough is the recipient of numerous journalism industry awards for investigative, analytical and breaking-news reporting.  She has deep familiarity with Middle East politics and government and has spent considerable time in Israel.

She has interviewed and written about a diverse collection of newsmakers and world leaders.  Her work has appeared in JNS.org, Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Vanity Fair, Fox News Latino, SBNation.com and other publications.

“I’m humbled and honored to take the helm of this incredible news service whose talented staff has worked tirelessly to earn its highly-regarded reputation,” McDonough says.  “I’m grateful to have been selected to carry out the vision of a dynamic publisher and distinguished board members. It’s exciting to continue JNS’s trajectory of growth that will make our service even better for our current and future subscribers and readers around the world.” McDonough takes over as of Aug. 8.

Departing Editor-in-Chief Jacob Kamaras “has been a remarkable and crucial factor in JNS’s extraordinary growth these past five years,” says Board President Joshua Katzen.  “Jacob’s commitment to unbiased, non-partisan and insightful reporting in large measure accounts for JNS’s presence nowadays in over 50 Jewish weeklies, a dozen Christian outlets and many USA dailies.  Jacob has left an important legacy, and in Karen McDonough we have found a worthy successor.”

The Jewish News Service was founded in 2011 to provide a counteracting voice to the mainstream media’s historic and ongoing bias against Israel. JNS.org works to disseminate a factual, balanced and non-partisan message about Israel to our network of client publications around the world. In addition to breaking news coverage and analysis, JNS provides a rich assortment of photos, cultural features, commentary and holiday-specific editorial packages.
