Prior to Sheldon Silver’s sentencing this month, Manhattan federal Judge Valerie Carponi is ordering that the sentencing for prior convicted New York politicians be presented.

Prosecutors were told that the information be supplied to “consider the need for unwarranted disparities between similarly situated defendants,” Carponi said.

Carponi called on government to hand in its sentencing paperwork, she said “a summary chart containing the sentences imposed on elected state and federal officials who were convicted in federal court of corruption-related offenses in the last five years to the extent that information is not unduly burdensome to obtain,” Carponi said.

Talk about a work load! Prosecutors have had a cascade of corrupt politicians that have faced numerous charges, some of which include but not limited to; racketeering, tax evasion, bribery and mail fraud.

In an effort to rig a 2013 mayoral election for then state Senator Malcolm Smith, former City Councilman Dan Halloran was ordered to serve 10 years jail time when he failed at a $200,000 bribery to rig the election. Smith was also slapped with a seven year sentence.

One after the other, it has be a disgraceful list of politicians breaking the law and one by one they are paying the price.

In an effort to live a high-end lifestyle, ex-state senator Pedro Espada Jr, stole money from a taxpayer-established non-profit organization. He was slammed with a five year prison sentence.

Leading in the role of corruption and jail time, is Silver who is looking at 130 years jail time since being convicted of corruption in November.

While he may receive less time when served on April 13, his sentence doesn’t seem like it will be a significant difference from what he faces.

Along with Silver is Ex-Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos was convicted of bribery and corruption also faces 130 year sentence. The sentencing date is set for April 28.

Carponi is giving prosecutors’ sentencing submission until April 6, according to court records.
