Do Jewish Lives Really Matter?

Since September, thirty Jews have been killed by terrorist Palestinians. Do the math. That’s the equivalent of 1,800 Americans. See our point?

When the ordinary American reader or viewer, Jewish or not, comes across a story of a single Israeli Jew killed by a bomb, stabbing or a Palestinian driven car, he shrugs his shoulders and murmurs, “Just a single death. Not much to concern myself about.” But if we in this country suffered a terror event resulting in the deaths of 60 innocent American victims in a single attack, the story would be headline news for weeks with all the resulting after stories and investigations that would continue on for months. And with the proportion of populations of our country of over 350 million to Israel’s just under 6 million one Israeli death interprets into 60 of our own. But very few in the media ever view terror casualties in this manner. .

But that’s been the story for ages: Jewish lives mean little. Since September, thirty Jews have been killed by terrorist Palestinians. Do the math. That’s the equivalent of 1,800 Americans. See our point? Were those attackers on our soil sent from, let’s say Cuba or Venezuela, just what would be the average citizen’s attitude toward the nation that instigated, spurred on and supported such terror? Rage, hatred and demands for massive revenge would be emanating from mobs in the streets, politicians and the media. But we see no such outrage or anger from Israelis. They take these deaths in their stride and life goes on there, mostly unchanged and uninterrupted. Is this tepid response an encouragement for the Palestinians to continue and even ramp up this current Intifada?

We think it does. Criminals always view the dangers facing themselves resulting from their criminality against others before taking action. The less there is to fear from their victims or the communities in which they practice their trade, the more they are motivated to continue their deeds of evil doing. Executions, extended prison sentences, expulsion of their families from the country or progressive penalties against their communities would cause these terrorists to give a second thought before they struck. The citizens of Israel deserve more protective policies from their government than they are now getting. For 2,000 years Jews have had to live under the rule of despots who cared not one bit about the safety of their Jewish residents. Jews had no power or force to protect against of even intimidate their persecutors. They were easy prey.

But no more. They now have the military advantage over the Palestinian marauders who attack Jews like shooting fish in a barrel. This open season on them in their own land has to come to an end. The message has to be sent out and it has to register. If you attack a Jew anywhere in the land of Israel you are a goner and your family and village will have to chip in to suffer and share with you the penalty levied. The response of the world be damned. G-d helps those who help themselves. That time has come.
