Jews and Brews NYC, a unique Meetup group designed to help young Jewish professionals socialize in a casual, relaxed atmosphere, over their love of beer, is teaming up with Durden Bar, to help Jewish veterans at a special Pre-Veteran’s Day event.  On Tuesday, November 10, Jews and Brews NYC (http://www.meetup.com/Jews-and-Brews-NYC) will host their next event at Durden Bar (www.durdenbarnyc.com), located at 213 2nd Avenue, in Manhattan, with the bar donating a percentage of sales to the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America (www.jwv.org).  The event starts at 6:30 PM.

The event, taking place on the eve of Veteran’s Day, provides a venue for attendees to meet other Jewish people, whether their goal is to make new friends, form romantic connections, or connect with others for business networking. At the same time, it allows participants to say thank you to Jewish veterans who fought for our country, many of whom were injured during their service.  The Jews and Brews members are delighted to have the opportunity to give back to our armed forces, and show their gratitude. The money raised will go towards funding important programs and initiatives for veterans.

Rebecca Dauer, the Founder of Jews and Brews NYC, said, “Our group was formed to help Jewish professionals find other like-minded individuals in the New York area. I moved here from Boston several years ago, and did not know many people in the city.  New York can be a lonely place for some. We provide an outlet for Jewish professionals, that didn’t exist before, in a fun and friendly environment.  When we are able to contribute to philanthropic causes such as volunteering in a soup kitchen (December 2014) or helping Jewish veterans, it makes our efforts much more rewarding.  Both my grandfather and my fiancé’s grandfather served in the military. It means a lot to both of us to be able to help the Jewish War Veterans. We would like to thank Durden Bar for hosting our event, and agreeing to contribute money from the sales at this event to such a worthy cause”

Jerry Blum, National Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United State of America, said, “The Jewish War Veterans is the oldest veterans service organization in the U.S., and as such, has done much for the cause of defeating bigotry and the misinformation that Jews haven’t contributed to the defense of this country. An event such as a “Jews and Brews” meetup is a great opportunity to help spread the word.”

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) has a strong presence across the nation, making a difference in the lives of veterans, service members, and their families. They have national representatives who serve as liaisons to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and when appropriate, the Departments of State, Labor, and Housing and Urban Development.  The JWV advocates on behalf of its members, and have even led key legislative victories, including the creation of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, which is an education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty after September 10, 2001. The organization provides important resources, and administers popular programs for veterans, such as the National Disaster Relief Fund, National Reward Fund, and the National Youth Achievement Program.
