Early Friday morning, September 18, while walking to his synagogue in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay area, an elderly Jewish man was robbed.

According to a police source, the victim was identified as 76-year-old Max Lew. At approximately 6 a.m. Lew was approached by an African American male as he walked down Brown Street. The perpetrator commanded Lew, “Give me your money!” A struggle ensued between the two after Lew refused the robbers demand for money.

Lew was pushed down by the suspect, who then forced him to lie on his back on the ground. The robber then proceeded to take $120 in cash from Lew’s person, according to police.

To great relief, Lew incurred no serious injuries. After he called police to file a report, officers responded to the scene. Police said that they searched the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

Nearby surveillance video was obtained by detectives, which shows the entire incident. In the video, Lew can be seen being attacked and robbed by a tall black man.

A fairly accurate profile of the suspect has been secured, and police are in the process of identifying him.
