In an incredible display of unity, people from different nationalities and backgrounds joined together with Jews around the world to pray for the safety and well-being of the Jewish nation in light of the existential threat posed by the impending Iran nuclear deal

Over 500,000 people united on September 8th in locations across the globe to participate in a historic “Day of Jewish Unity.” In an incredible display of unity, people from different nationalities and backgrounds joined together with Jews around the world to pray for the safety and well-being of the Jewish nation in light of the existential threat posed by the impending Iran nuclear deal. As a result of the great success of this inaugural unity campaign, the event organizers have announced plans to replicate the initiative in the future.

This extraordinary global event, which transcended religious divides, was preceded by a social media campaign promoting the “Day of Jewish Unity” that went absolutely viral. In addition to North America and Israel, the campaign reached over 1 million people worldwide, including individuals in such places as the Philippines, Australia, South Africa, India, all across South America and Europe, Ethiopia, Haiti, and Turkey. In addition, the specially produced online videos about the “Day of Jewish Unity” were viewed over 200,000 times by people around the world. The “Day of Jewish Unity,” which was covered in the print media and on national television and radio programs, elicited a great degree of emotion from a number of the journalists who reported on the event.

In conjunction with the “Day of Jewish Unity,” Jews representing a cross-section of world Jewry, as well as people from all walks of life, took part in a special global event by reciting Chapters 20 and 130 of Psalms anytime between the hours of 7am and 12pm EDT on September 8th. The event was planned in advance of the congressional vote on the Iran nuclear deal. There is a prevailing sense that if the Iran deal takes effect in its present form, it would place the Jewish people in harm’s way and pose a grave threat to democracies worldwide.

Several dozen businesses from throughout North America and Israel participated in the “Day of Jewish Unity.” Employees at these companies were encouraged by their employers to set aside time during their work day on September 8th in order to recite two chapters of Psalms and join with more than a half-million people worldwide who were praying for the welfare of the Jewish nation in light of the proposed Iran nuclear deal.

“We witnessed an amazing outpouring of support from literally all over the world, which culminated in an extraordinary and perhaps unprecedented show of global unity,” said Rabbi Motty Kroizer, international director of Acheinu, the organization that coordinated this initiative. “This historic event is a testament of the yearning that people have to shed whatever differences they may have with others in order to come together with one collective voice and engage in prayer in an effort to avert what many perceive to be an acute global threat. When faced with the frightening prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran, we stood united in our faith and resorted to prayer in order to seek divine intervention to help us overcome the odds and persevere.”

Rabbi Kroizer noted that in light of the tremendous global response that was engendered by the “Day of Jewish Unity,” his organization intends to coordinate similar events in the future and hopes to build on the widespread momentum and excitement that was garnered by this inaugural event.
